During the Holiday Season it is easy to grow weary. Out buying presents, baking, prepping for the arrival of family and friends… it is tiring. These are the times when it is best to lift up your eyes, look around and enjoy that which you have and slow down the pace. Don’t get distracted from that which is most important, the meaning of the Season and family and friends.
See… for a moment you forgot about tolling! And while we are celebrating, ODOT is moving forward with their tolling plans.
This week we look at where toll plans are today (podcast), plans to discount tolls to those below and above poverty level, how to avoid tolling snares and what the Federal Government is cooking up in California.
And remember, It doesn’t matter if you are naughty or nice, tolling is coming to town…
In Short
Article 1 - The Oregon Transportation Commission approved a program to discount tolls for those living in poverty. No one truly knows what tolls will cost so the discount can’t be known either.
Interesting to note that, across the nation, less than 5% of the people living in poverty even sign-up for such a program.
Article 2 - California, 15 years ago, planned to build a high speed rail from San Diego to Sacramento. The estimated $30 Billion set aside for that is gone and now the Biden Administration is pledging monies for a newer idea.
FYI, we had reported, months earlier, that California is losing $500 Million per year in their transportation systems… in the Bay area. But as we noted last week, money grows on trees watered by the people.
Article 3 - This is an important read on how to avoid the snares of tolling. Fines, admin fees, delayed payments… these can add up quickly and get very expensive!
